The Social Work Department is committed to supporting the education of students. All scholarship applications are made through the bet36365体育 Financial Aid Office and through the MyBLUE online System. The exception is the Field Placement Stipend, which is available through the department and only to students who are entering field placement.
The following information provides information about each scholarship:
Established by faculty and students of the Social Work Program in honor of Ms. Miles, this scholarship will be awarded to full-time sophomore or junior student enrolled in the Social Work Program. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate aptitude and potential for the profession of Social Work. Financial need is a consideration.

Mrs. McMullen spent her life in Nebraska and earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Kearney State College (KSC). She was an exceptional human being who dedicated her short life to the advocacy and service of others. According to her family, she was the first person involved in the Community Action Program and for many years served as the Executive Director of Mid Nebraska Community Services, Inc. She was a member of numerous boards and organizations, which included the Board of Directors of the Central Nebraska Technical Community College, the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce, KSC Alumni Association, National Rehabilitation Association, Association for Retarded Citizens, Nebraska Welfare Association, National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, and Kearney League of Women Voters. Most notably, Mrs. McMullen was instrumental in starting a number of programs and agencies such as South Central Agency on Aging, the Western Legal Aid Program, Weatherization Program, and WIC Program.
Mrs. McMullen was a strong advocate for the Social Work Program at KSC since its inception and was involved in preparation for its initial accreditation. She was actively involved in the Social Work Program’s Curriculum Committee and served as the Vice President of the Social Work Advisory Board at the time of her death. She passed away in 1980 at the age of thirty-nine. In 1981, Social Work faculty and the Students Social Work Organization planted a red Maple tree in honor of her memory. In 1986, her friends and family established this scholarship in honor of her memory.
